On May 6, 1937, the Zeppelin Company's Hindenburg airship caught fire during it's attempt to dock with its mooring mast in New Jersey. 36 passengers and 61 crewmen were on board. 13 passengers and 22 crewmen were killed as well as one individual on the ground. The disaster is well documented due to extensive newsreel coverage and Herbert Morrison's eyewitness radio report (heard here).
